When is your next food handlers class?
The next in-person training will be Tuesday, April 23 at 9:00AM. You can sign up by calling 304-728-8416. If you need to get your card sooner you can take any one of the ANSI-accredited online food handler training listed here: https://www.ansi.org/Accreditation/credentialing/certificate-issuers/AllDirectoryListing?prgID=266&statusID=4 . After completing the online training you would need to stop by our office Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday between 9:00 and 11:00 AM or 1:00 and 3:30 PM with a copy of your certificate to get your food handler’s card.
Okay, what are the actual current requirements, as of … September 2019? It seems I have to bring in some “Food Handler Certificate” but I can’t find any info on how to get that (tho’ there is SOME info on some pricey class I could take.) You have zero info on online training other than the pricey class, and … we don’t even get the food safety TRAINING MANUAL until after we pass a class and show you a certificate? What?
BTW – your web page cuts off the top text of each page, so no one can see what the page is supposed to be about, and lacks useful links.
I’m sorry you’ve had difficulties with the food handler requirements. We’ve been making changes over the past year to ensure every food handler in Jefferson County is adequately trained to protect the health of whomever they serve. All food handlers must now complete an online or in-person training and receive a certificate before we can issue their food handler card. Current requirements are listed on our food handler page, copied and pasted below for your convenience.
Regarding the website’s cut off text, would you mind telling me what browser you are using, and whether you’re using a computer, tablet or phone? I was unable to replicate the error you described.
If your food handler card has expired, or you are getting one for the first time… You have two options.
Option 1: Register for an in-person class
Register for our in-person food handler training class and test* by calling 304-728-8416. Seats are limited so you MUST pre-register. These classes start at 9am and are only offered two Tuesdays each month so be sure to check the calendar.*
Attend the training class and complete the test with a passing grade. If you pass you will then be walked down to have your photo taken and receive your food card.
In order to process your food handler card you must provide the following: A valid photo ID, Certificate of passing grade (obtained after testing), Establishment and location where you are working (Example: McDonalds, Charles Town), Payment ($10.00 – Cash, Credit, or Check)
Option 2: Complete an online course
Please note: These are state approved courses with a test at the end. These links are not affiliated with our office and they do charge for their course and testing.
Take one of the online courses listed here: https://www.ansi.org/Accreditation/credentialing/certificate-issuers/AllDirectoryListing?prgID=266&statusID=4 Be sure to print the certificate.
Once you have completed the online course and received a passing grade you will need to print out the certificate you receive (showing a copy on your smartphone is acceptable as long as your name is clearly visible).
Come to the health department on Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday between the hours of 9:00am-11:00am or 1:00pm-3:30pm. You will have your picture taken and must provide: A valid photo ID, Food Handler certificate and/or ANSI/CFPM certificate received from the link, Establishment and location where you are working (Example: McDonalds, Charles Town), Payment ($10.00 – Cash, Credit, or Check)
