The Jefferson County Health Department holds special events, and has regularly-scheduled clinical times. Please check our calendar if you are in need of one of our services.
JCHD staff will provide Narcan training at the health department on the first Thursday of each month from 4:00-5:00 PM. This training is free and open to the public. Participants will receive a certificate of training, and get a rescue kit with two doses of naloxone.
Naloxone (Narcan, Evzio) is a medication designed to rapidly reverse opioid overdose. It is an opioid antagonist—meaning that it binds to opioid receptors and can reverse and block the effects of opioids. It can very quickly restore normal respiration to a person whose breathing has slowed or stopped as a result of overdosing with heroin or prescription pain medications. If you or a loved one use opioids – prescribed or not – having this medication available in an emergency and knowing how to use it saves lives.
You must register in advance for these classes, as there is limited space. Please contact the environmental health department at 304-728-8416 to register. A $15 fee payable by credit or debit card is due when you call to register.
Please allow ample time to complete the class, test, and obtain your food handler card. This process typically takes two hours (9:00-11:00am). We ask that you arrive at least 10 minutes before the class begins to sign in, as class will begin at 9:00am sharp. Classes are held at 1948 Wiltshire Road Entrance B Kearneysville WV 25430.
Renewal tests are by appointment only. Please call 304-728-8416 extension 3021 or 3037 to schedule your appointment.
You must bring your current, non-expired food handler card, valid photo ID, and sign our statement of understanding (provided during your appointment) to participate in the renewal testing

This Friday and Saturday, May 29 & 30, we will be offering free COVID-19 testing from 9:00AM – 4:00PM. Whether you’ve been feeling unwell, are required to have a test for work, or you just want to be tested for your own awareness, all are welcome! No appointment or insurance needed, just bring your driver’s license or other proof of address. Since the weather forecast doesn’t look too friendly, Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races has generously allowed us to use their parking garage as the testing location — we will be able to operate rain or shine!
